What is building biology?
Building biology is the study of the holistic relationships between humans and their built environment. In other words it is described as “a field of building science. The study of the built environment and its affects on our health.”The aim is to create a healthy, natural, sustainable, and beautifully designed living and working environment. In building biology, buildings and rooms are referred to as our “third skin,” which reflects how closely we are connected to our built environment.”
Building Biology Consultants specialize in a wide range of activities:advice on healthy living and sleeping, construction and renovation of buildings and apartments, as well as targeted analysis of stressful indoor environmental quality factors. Depending on their occupational qualifications, Building Biology Consultants focus on consulting, testing but also design and construction work. To make a comparison in general terms Building Biology is an advancement from Feng Shui but in a technological sense.
In Australia we look at how well buildings perform and so are familiar with green, energy efficient buildings but Building Biology promotes 25 principles of Ecological Building and Design which incorporates healthy building materials, sustainable living, good building design and practices plus much much more into one neat box. These principals can be used in any project as well as in our everyday lives. Building Biology moves to educate us to look at the whole picture, discovering the benefits for our health and well being as well our environment.
